Lois Carter

It is with deep sorrow that we say goodbye to Lois; Mother, Sister, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother.  Lois Marlene Carter, (nee de la Hey,) 79, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elgin, Illinois.  Lois was born on August 16, 1933 in Tuxford, Saskatchewan.  She lived in Elgin for more than 45 years where she was a longtime member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer and faithfully served on the Altar Guild for many years.

She is survived by her three children: Karen (Jay) Mikes, Garth (Lisa) Carter, and Lynda (David) Grabarek, nine grandchildren: Zachariah (Betty), Emily, Joshua, Maxwell, Joseph, Brett, Christine, Grace, Ella, and two great grandchildren: Jocelyn and Dylan.  She is also survived by two brothers, Art (Liz), Jerrold (Barb), and her sister Mavis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Reginald (Reg) and Verna de la Hey, and her sister Dorita (Dede) Wheatley.

Lois worked for the Elgin Park District at Wing Park Golf Course and at JCPenney from the day the store at Springhill Mall in West Dundee opened until she retired in 2002.  She enjoyed sewing, cross stitching, reading, and was a die-hard Cubs fan. 

Memorial service will be held on Saturday April 20, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Redeemer Episcopal Church, Elgin. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-8:00 P.M. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Redeemer Altar Guild, Elgin, Illinois.
