Alex Bentz
(02-08-1925 - 06-07-2013)

Alex Bentz died at home on June 7, 201.  He was born to Romanian immigrants Alexander and Victoria Bencze on February 8, 1925 in Aurora, IL.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Rae, his daughters Pamela (Curt) Acton, Janet (Doug) Jones, Victoria (Scott) Gilmore, niece Marny Ruhland, grandson Daniel Acton and granddaughter Jeannine (Michael) Puehler.  Alex was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe.  After military service Alex attended Aurora College/Piano Tuning School on the GI bill.  He met his future wife Shirley, the daughter of a piano tuner, on a blind date.  They married in 1952 and spent their entire married life as residents of Elgin, raising their three daughters there.   Alex was well-known as a highly skilled piano technician who was still working into his 80s.  He was an artist who could take a piano down to its bare bones and rebuild it into a stunning piece of furniture as well as a beautiful instrument.  He will be remembered not only for his talent for building, creating and repairing just about anything, but especially for his kindness, sense of humor and respect for and knowledge of the Bible.  Some 45 years ago Alex became one of Jehovah's Witnesses and would happily discuss with anyone who showed an interest the wonderful hope for the future that he found in the Bible.  He was very often a source of comfort to friends and family and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Remembrances will be private at the family home. Arrangements were made by Laird Funeral Home in Elgin. For additional information 847-741-8800 or lairdfamilyfuneralservices.com
