Lorna R Childers

Lorna R. Childers, 79 of Northglenn, CO, formerly of Elgin and Huntley passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013 at her home with many of her family present. She was born on July 24, 1933 in Ancon, Panama Canal Zone, the daughter of Julia McSweeney Leach and Raymond Leach. After graduating from high school in Massachusetts she returned to the Canal Zone where she met the love of her life, John A. “Jack” Childers. They married on April 25, 1953 in the Canal Zone and moved back to the Chicago area, ultimately settling in Elgin in 1969 where they raised their family. Lorna was employed for many years as a salesperson by Joseph Spiess Co. and later worked for both Carson Pirie Scott and Bergner’s before retiring in 2003.
She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin. She was active in youth sports while raising her children, at St. Edward High School and also enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in sporting events and other activities.
Surviving are her 2 daughters, Renee (Steve) Pavlik of CO, Patricia (Alan) Bixby of Elgin, 3 sons, John “Jack” (Char) Childers and Michael (Denise) Childers both of Elgin and Timothy (Linda) Childers of South Elgin; 12 grandchildren, Krissy, Kathy and Lorna Pavlik, Jack (Shannon), Joey and Caiti Childers, Mike (Iana) Childers, Jessica (Darryl) Kirk, Brik Garcia Jr. and Adam, T.J., and Kayla Childers; 7 great grandchildren, Kyler, Kalob and Hailee Pavlik, Hannah and Aiden Kirk, Brik Garcia III and Keegan Garcia and one sister, Maureen Walls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Her husband of 50 years, John “Jack” Childers, 3 sisters, Patricia, Sissy and Sheila, 3 brothers, Raymond, LeRoy and Austin and a grandson James Childers.
Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 NOON, Saturday, July 6 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin. Burial will follow at River Valley Memorial Gardens, West Dundee. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.
