Roland C. Behling

Roland C. Behling, 89, of South Elgin, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013 in his home.  He was born on January 25, 1924 in Elgin the son of William & Emma (Knoll) Behling.


Roland was a WW II Veteran having served in the US Army.  He was involved in Scouting for over 65 years.  Was a member of the Big Timer Hiawatha Dancers, the Elgin Kiwanis and the Elgin Golden K, and the American Legion Post #57.  He enjoyed being a guest reader at Clinton Grade School in South Elgin.  And had been a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Elgin, and after moving to South Elgin joined the South Elgin Community Methodist Church.


He is survived by his loving wife Mary Alice (Pletcher) Behling, of 64 years.

Brother, Leonard (Gay) Behling of Georgia; sister, Mary Behling of Colorado; Brother-in-law  William Ingham and nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Dorolyn Ingham.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the South Elgin Community Methodist Church, 400 W. Spring St., South Elgin.  Burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin.  Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-8 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and on Monday at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of services.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the church or the Elgin Golden K.  For information 847-741-8800 or visit www.lairdfamilyfuneralservices.com.
