Mary Jane Bredehorn
(05-16-1920 - 01-16-2014)

Mary Jane Gladys Bredehorn, age 93, passed away on January 16, 2014. Mary was born on May 16, 1920 in Elgin, IL to James Patrick and Maud Margaret (O'Connell) McMahon. She is survived by her son James (Martha) Bull and her daughter Barbara (Bull) Flanigan. She also leaves behind a granddaughter Caitlin Bull, nephews Pat McMahon, Bill McMahon, niece Jean Bettenhausen, and a step-family Lorna, Katie and Larry Bredehorn; all of whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her first husband Leroy Louis Bull, and her second husband George Vernon Bredehorn, brother James P. McMahon, brother William O. McMahon, as well as her parents. Mary (Dort) was very active in Elgin. She was past president of Jr. Service Board, past member of Fideliter Club, six year member of Elgin Parks and Recreation board and member of the board of directors of the Elgin YWCA. She was also a member and past president of Every Wednesday Literary Club, Donor Club, House and Garden Club and a member of the Elgin Genealogical Society and the Elgin Historical Society. Dort was a voracious reader, loved bridge and doing her crossword puzzles every Sunday. Our house was always filled with flowers and our backyard filled with birds. She was the kindest and most loving woman most of us will ever know. She was the mom everyone would wish for and the friend everyone turned to. May we all aspire to be half of what she was, and become half of what she would have wished for us. Honoring Mary's wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no formal service or visitation. Mary's family will celebrate her life privately. Memorial gifts may be made to Gail Borden Public Library. She could not have lived her life without books.
