Marilyn Janet Balsamo

Marilyn Janet Balsamo, 80, of South Elgin passed away on May 3, 2014. She was born on October 15, 1933 in Neptune City, NJ the daughter of George J. and Charlotte (Burdge) Woolley. Marilyn had worked as a bus driver for school district U-46 for 22 years. She was a founder and First President of the District U-46 Transportation Union. She was a Cub Scout den mother and Girl Scout Leader. Marilyn was an avid ceramicist and knitter, engaged in many crafts and hobbies. She was an active member of the Elgin American Legion Auxiliary, serving as President on four separate years, and also as county and District President, and also a member of the auxiliary 8 & 40.
Survivors include her husband: August R. “Bob” Balsamo, whom she married on February 14, 1954. 6 children: Robert Phillip Balsamo; George Joseph (Barbara) Balsamo, Linda Susan Lott, Carol Joy (James) Gunn, William Raymond Balsamo and John Michael Balsamo. 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. A brother: George Joseph (Dianne) Woolley; and a sister: Carol Joy (Wayne) Craven, along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson: James L. Young; a son in law: Dale J. Lott and a Daughter in law: Diane Balsamo.
Funeral services will be held on Friday May 9, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Entombment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Omission of flowers is requested with memorials donated to the American Legion Post #57 Auxiliary.
