Andrew 'Andy' William Smithberger
(07-10-1932 - 01-23-2015)

 Andrew “Andy” William Smithberger, 82, of Elgin, returned to his heavenly home on January 23, 2015 after a long and loving life. His strong devotion to faith and family supported him throughout and peacefully carried him into the arms of the Lord.

Andrew was born on July 10, 1932 the son of Andrew and Mary (Myers) Smithberger. Andrew graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend, IN and Purdue University College of Agriculture. He was a member of the Purdue Marching Band, and the Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity. He was a Veteran and served in the US Army. Andrew had worked at Associated Milk Producers for 30 years and retired from Amex Plating.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and 56 year member of the Knights of Columbus.


Survivors include his best friend and loving wife: Beverly (Netherton) Smithberger whom he married on October 12, 1957. They were blessed with 3 children: Stephen (Gloria) Smithberger of Union, IL; Kathleen (Robert) Jones of Crete, IL; David (Sarah Crichton) Smithberger of Elgin. Andrew was a devoted Granddad of 5 granddaughters: Erica (Joe) Steadman, Kaitlin and Jaclyn Jones; Madeline and Liza Smithberger; 5 great grandchildren; and his brother, Thomas Smithberger of CA.


He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters: Beth Pulte and Susan Smithberger.
Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday January 27, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Elgin with Rev. Chris Kuhn officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be on Monday from 4-8:30 P.M. at the Laird Funeral Home, with a Rosary recited at 6:30 P.M. by the Knights of Columbus, and on Tuesday at the church from 9:30 A.M. until the Mass at 10 A.M.
