S. Bruce Burnidge
(04-25-1938 - 03-22-2015)

Mr. S. Bruce Burnidge of Elgin, IL passed away, after a brief illness, on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at his Elgin home surrounded by his family. Bruce was born to Alice and Sidney Burnidge on April 25, 1938 and was a lifelong resident of Elgin. Bruce was married to Shirley Leetzow his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 57 years on July 20, 1957. After graduating from Elgin High School Bruce worked for several years in his family’s road construction business before opening Pets and Pots, a pet, fine housewares and flower shop, on Randall Road in Elgin. Following Pets and Pots Bruce worked for many years as an antique and jewelry dealer having shops in Geneva, St. Charles and attending weekend antique shows throughout northern Illinois. More than the work itself Bruce enjoyed the contact he made with people and the lasting friendships he forged, many of which continued until his passing. Bruce will be fondly remembered for many things including his love of family, love of life, love of people, love of gardening and his uncanny ability to see the inner beauty in all things and all people. Bruce spent many happy hours over the years establishing and nurturing his home garden and koi ponds which were featured in several garden club tours. When not at work or working in the garden Bruce loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and friends both at home and away with Lake Summerset, IL, Green Lake, WI, Door County, WI and Lake Geneva, WI being favorite destinations. Bruce had a passion for food and dining out and often hosted family and friends so that he could share this passion with those he loved. With his gifted eye for design, Bruce also enjoyed floral arranging, painting pictures and decorating his beloved home that he was instrumental in designing. Bruce is survived by his loving wife Shirley, daughter Tina (David) Gelinas and sons Troy (Brenda), Todd (Allison), Terry (Martha) and Tad (Vickie). Bruce was blessed with five grandchildren, Joshua Burnidge, Tigen (Toby) Sanavongxay, Christina Ihrke, Kody Burnidge and Dean Burnidge and one great granddaughter Joy Sanavongxay. Also surviving Bruce are brothers Charles Burnidge and John Burnidge and sister Lois (Richard) Soule and sister-in-law Roberta Nauman. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and brother James. There will be a private family celebration of Bruce’s life in April of 2015. Memorials may be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital or the brain injury unit of Winning Wheels Inc., 701 E.
