Norman Bloomfield

Norman Bloomfield, 97, of Elgin passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Heritage Manor, Elgin. He was born on August 21, 1918 in Elgin, the son of Giles & Emma (Geschke) Bloomfield. A resident of Elgin all his life, a graduate of Elgin High School, he had been employed by Gromer Super Market for 34 years before retiring. He served the Lord as an active member of Trout Park Baptist Church for 46 years and a member of the First Baptist Church since 1988. He was a member of the Men’s Fellowship of the church and also the choir.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Deloris (Wienke) Bloomfield of 75 years, married on September 14, 1940. Four very special children: 3 daughters, Kay (Joseph) Hatfield of Elgin, Janice (Gregory) Johnson of Elgin, Jean (Patrick) Henning of Mesa, AZ and a son Lee Bloomfield also of Elgin. Seven precious grandchildren: Carly Vana, Aaron (Myriah) Hatfield, Kristin (Patrick) Barrett, Stacey and Kerri Johnson, Angela (Patricio) Garcia, Brian (Kira) Henning, and 12 great grandchildren. A sister Gertrude (Kenneth) Battin, a brother Ralph (Elsie) Ward, a sister-in-law Shirley (Robert) Ward and dear friend Jackie Kasten.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, his father, Giles Bloomfield, a U.S. Marine killed in action during WW I, mother, Emma Ward, step father Frank Ward and a brother Robert Ward.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church, 1735 W. Highland Ave., Elgin. Private burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church.
