Richard W. Barth

Richard W. Barth, 80, of Elgin passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Presence St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. He was born July 29, 1935 in Elgin the son of Gustav and Myra Malzow Barth. He had been a resident of the Elgin area for all of his life and was a graduate of Elgin High School in 1953. He married Mary Lou Aumann in 1956 in Wood Dale. Dick was employed by D.C. Cook Publishing CO., the City of Elgin as a policeman for 11 years and then as a Security Guard at Sherman Hospital for 32 years retiring in 1999.
He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America/Two Rivers Council, active in scouting for 61 years and received the Silver Beaver Award,”Burton Award” District Award of Merit, was a Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow, National Camp School, Commissioner Arrowhead Honor, Scouter’s Training Award, District Committee Key, Venturing Leadership Award, Venturing Training Award, Bachelor of Commissioner Science & Master of Commissioner Science in the College of Commissioner Science. He received the distinguished commissioner Service Award, served on camp staffs as camp commissioner, attended 4 national camborees on National Staff, was Grand Marshall in the 4th of July parade for the 100 anniversary of Scouting; and received a Lifetime Volunteer Pin from President Bush in 2014. He was a member of the National Locksmith Association and served as locksmith at Sherman Hospital. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army with the Illinois National Guard.
Surviving are his 3 children, Catherine (William) Hemmings of Gilberts, Nancy (Jim) Stade of Elgin and Kevin (Elise) Barth of Glen Ellyn, 4 grandchildren, Kelli, Kyle and Karl Barth and Michael Stade, a brother Tony Lazzara and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, Tony Lazzara, his wife Mary Lou on Feb. 28, 2011, and a grandson, Michael William Moffatt.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will follow at Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
