Elizabeth "Beth" Bacino

Elizabeth “Beth” Freeman Bacino, 95, of Elgin passed away Wednesday January 20, 2016 in Elgin. She was born on the family farm on Freeman Rd. in Rutland Township the daughter of Catherine Hogan Freeman and Patrick Thomas Freeman. She was a graduate from Dundee Community High School and Northern Illinois University with a degree in education. Beth began teaching in South Beloit, followed by positions in Dundee and Algonquin grade schools. During W.W. II she joined the American Red Cross overseas and was assigned to a club mobile unit with the 89th Infantry Division in France. During the Korean Conflict she joined the Special Services Dept. of Civil Services and worked as a program director for a service club of the 29th Infantry Division stationed on Okinawa and Japan. After coming home she returned to teaching in Algonquin in District #300.
In 1954 Beth married Leo J. Bacino Sr. at St. Mary’s Church in Gilberts.
Beth and Leo were charter members of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin; a member of the Rutland Township Historical Society and the St. Mary’s Church Cemetery, Gilberts cemetery board.
Surviving are her daughter, Elizabeth (Dennis) Butzow, her son, Leo Bacino, her 4 loving grandchildren, Meggie Butzow (Conrad Bradburn), Jeanne Butzow (Patrick Sampson), Michael and John Butzow; her nieces and nephews, Mary King, Jane Houtz, Patrick and Charles Beckman, Joseph and Patrick Freeman, Mary McGee and Craig Bacino; and several great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leo in 1985, 3 sisters, Mary Kennedy, Catherine Freeman and Lucy Beckman and her brother, retired AF Brigadier General Patrick J. Freeman.
Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 25 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Church Cemetery, Gilberts. Visitation will be held on Sunday at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and in the church on Monday from 9:45 A.M. until the time of mass.
