Robert Cherney

Robert Henry Cherney passed away peacefully on December 15, 2010 in Tracy, California where he was living with the family of his daughter, Mary. Born October 10, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Henry Cherney and Anna (Hammerschmidt) Cherney. He grew up and lived in the Chicago area until 1985, when he moved to Springhill, Florida upon his retirement from Imperial-Eastman Corporation where he worked for 36 years. He was married to Ann (O'Herron) Cherney for 26 years until her death in 1975. He married Diane (Fergus) Cherney in 1981 and they spent many happy years together until her death in 1996. He was a veteran of WW II where he served in the Office of Strategic Services while stationed in England. He was a devoted and loving father and is survived by his children and their spouses: James (Honey), Mary (John), Robert (Mary Ellen), Thomas, Nancy and Glenn (Claudia). He was also very proud of his five grandsons; Brett, Tyler, Jared, Benjamin and Grant, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A caring brother, he is survived by three of his five siblilngs to whom he remained close: Marge, Rita and Richard (Eileen). He was preceded in death by Lucille and Jeannie.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 15,, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until the time of services in the funeral home.
