Howard Swede Anderson

Howard “Swede” Anderson, 86 of Elgin went to be with his lord on Friday, August 12, 2011 at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights. He was born August 7, 1925 in Elgin the son of Charles and Esther Anderson. He had been a resident of the Elgin area all of his life and was a graduate of Elgin High School. He was employed by McGraw Electric, Ludwig and Modern Dairies and then School District U-46 before retiring. He was a veteran of W.W. 2 serving in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Elgin where he served as a trustee and on other various committee’s and was a member of the Men’s Club, Fellowship Club, Walcamp and Cub Master. He was a member of the Elgin Lion’s Club, American Legion Post 57 and VFW Post 1307.

Howard enjoyed the outdoors and the family home in Lake Geneva and to travel. He loved being with family and friends and will always be remembered for his love of chocolate and his great sense of humor.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Trudy whom he married on October 17, 1953, and his son, Mark Anderson of Elgin,
2 sisters, Delores (Richard) Hilliard and
Janet (James) Bennett


He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, June Anderson.


Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 18 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Elgin with Rev. Hannibal Frederich officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and on Thursday from 9:45 A.M. until the time of services in the church.
