Pearl Ellen Boulnois

Pearl Ellen Boulnois, 74, of Poplar Grove, passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2012 at the home of her daughter after a long battle with breast cancer.
Ellen was born August 29, 1937 in Warren County, Iowa. She was the daughter of L.C. and Ila Baker Zike. She grew up in Burlington, IA and graduated from Burlington High School in 1955. In 1958 she graduated from what was then Burlington Hospital School of nursing. She started her nursing career at the Burlington Medical Center and later worked as Operating Room Supervisor at the Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, KY where she met her husband David Boulnois.
Ellen and David were married July 1, 1962 at the Sunnyside Ave. Baptist Church. They were the parents of four children; Gregory (Kelly) Boulnois, Lisa (Jim) Whitcomb, Angela Boulnois and Mark (Roseanne) Boulnois. The family moved to Carpentersville, IL where Ellen resumed her first love in nursing in the care of the elderly. She completed course work and became a Nursing Home Administrator licensed in Illinois. Throughout her career she was a strong advocate for quality care issues in the long-term care setting. She devoted her life to her family and to the care and comfort of those who live out their lives in a long-term care setting. At the time of her retirement Ellen was a traveling consultant for Embassy Long-Term Care in Illinois.
Ellen Boulnois, also know as Pinky, is survived by three children, Greg, Lisa and Mark, 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, her sister Jerri (Vernon) Dean of Mt. Prospect, IA and several nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, one sister, and her beloved daughter Angela. Those who survive her are blessed by the loving way she always ministered to any and all whom God had entrusted to her care.
A celebration of Ellen’s life will take place in the Fox Valley Baptist Church in Dundee on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 4:00 P.M. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM in the Laird Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St., West Dundee. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East Cemetery, East Dundee.
