James A. Genz Sr., 75 of Elgin passed away Friday, September 7, 2012 in his home. He was born October 30, 1936 in Elgin the son of William F. and Dorothy Strubing Genz. He had been a resident of Elgin all of his life. He had been employed by the City of Elgin as a fireman starting in 1963 and was Deputy Chief retiring in 1990. He was a veteran of serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of VFW Post 1307, Elgin, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 799, Elgin, American Legion Post 57, Elgin and the Owls Club. He loved the Green Bay Packers the White Sox and to golf.
Surviving are his wife, Lynda Shaw Genz whom he married on November 4, 1977,
4 children, James (Diane) Genz Jr., Janet (Steve) Brezinski, Brian Henryson and
Kevin (Veronica) Henryson, 13 grandchildren, William (Mary) Genz, Shannon(Pat)
Strader, Jordan (Matt) Walter, Nicole (Brian) Genz, Nicole Cappelli, Mistie Peterson,
Patty (Bill) Maplesden, Hollis Wilkins, Kevin Henryson Jr., Miranda Henryson,
Carrie (Darin)Shaikes, Stephanie and Lindsey Brezinski, 15 great grandchildren,
a sister Judy Walker and a brother, Dennis Genz, sister-in-law Roberta Adams and brother-in-law John Adams, special friend Sheila Rose.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Genz.
Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 11 at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until the time of services.
