James Robert Kimmey, 84, of Elgin, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2017, surrounded by his family. Born July 10, 1932 to Michael J. and Frances M. (Olson) Kimmey in Aurora, Illinois.
James enlisted in the U.S. Air Force September 10, 1952 and was discharged on the ninth day of September 1956. In 1953, Jim volunteered for overseas duty where he spent two and a half years in France.., where he then met his Beloved wife, Renee (Hedon) Kimmey, married on November 16, 1955 at the Hotel de Ville in Nancy, France, and spent 46 years together.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Jim and Renee made their home in Elgin, Illinois, where they were Blessed with 3 children; Robert A. Kimmey (deceased), Ronald M. Kimmey (deceased) and daughter, Christine M. (Stephens) Kimmey.
He will be best remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and loyal friend to all who knew him. He most enjoyed many vacations to France, spending time with his family and friends, fishing, boating and relaxing up north at his summer cottage in Wisconsin.
Jim was a teacher at Ellis Jr. High School, Elgin, IL. And returned to college to further his education to receive his Bachelor’s degree at Illinois State University and Master’s Degree at the University of Illinois. He then taught at Elgin Community College where he introduced the CAD/CAM program. In 1986, he was presented from the Illinois Community College Trustees Assoc., the title "Outstanding Community College Faculty Member" for his contribution to quality instruction and commitment to the principles of higher education. He was recognized for his outstanding instruction and dedication in the area of Computer Aided Design-Drafting (May 1986) he was also honored and presented by the staff and students of Elgin Community College for his Outstanding dedicated service in "Educating the CAD designers of tomorrow."
Jim is survived by his daughter, Christine M. (Matthew) Stephens, one grandson, Ethan R. Stephens of West Lafayette, Indiana. Brother, Michael J. (Donna) Kimmey of Plano, IL., Sister in laws Sheila (Raymond) Kimmey of Morton, IL., Jeannine (Hedon) Zarling of Hanover Park, IL., Brother in law, Jean Hedon of Verdun, France., His fiancé’, Betty Volkening, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Proceeded in death by his parents, Michael J. and Frances M. Kimmey, his Beloved wife, Renee Kimmey, sons, Robert A. and Ronald M. Kimmey, and brother, Raymond Kimmey.

Services for James R. Kimmey will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 401 W. Main Street. West Dundee on Monday, January 30, 2017 from 10:00am to 12:00. Pastor Jim Murr will be officiating. A private Burial will be at Little Rock Township Cemetery, in Plano, IL. At 10:00am on February 4, 2017. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is assisting the family.
