Brian R. Oldfield, 71, of Elgin, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at home. He was born on June 1, 1945 in Elgin the son of Ray & Dorothy (Sportsman) Oldfield. Brian's life passion was the shot put. In 1963, while a student at Elgin High School, he began his career with becoming the Illinois State Champion. One of the highlights of his sports career include the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany. And in 1975, he set a world record shot put throw of 75 ft. He was a world-class athlete. Later in his life, Brian touched the lives of thousands through coaching. Throwing camps at Denison University in Ohio and coaching in Garden Plain, Kansas were two among many of his commitments. The Oldfield Spin is his legacy, a rotational technique for throwing the shot. Survivors include: his wife Tetyana Chopovenko, his sisters: Joan Lacey (Dennis) Junod, Ray Ann (Robert) Lacey Cecrle, Lori Oldfield Grimes. 7 nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, 51 Center St., Elgin. Burial will follow at Bluff City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8 PM in the chapel.
