Marguerite Mazzuca, nee Leddy, 101, died peacefully on April 26, at Journey Care Hospice in Barrington. Born August 29, 1915 in Chicago, Marge was the first-born child of George and Marion (Anderson) Leddy. On July 3, 1937, she married John Anthony Mazzuca, also from Chicago. They were blessed to celebrate over 60 years of marriage before John’s unexpected demise in March, 1998.
In 1951, the Mazzuca family moved to Villa Park. Marge was instrumental in numerous fund-raising projects to help establish St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lombard, where the family were parishioners until their move to Elgin in 1973. She was a resident of Elgin and member of St. Thomas More Church for 44 years. Marge worked most of her life as a secretary in insurance or real estate. She retired at 71!
She was preceded in death by all her siblings and their spouses; Elizabeth (Fred) Weirich, Jay (Dan) English, and George (Rose) Leddy. She is survived by her son, Michael Mazzuca, her daughter, Mary Ellen Mazzuca and son-in-law, John Brewer. Marge was blessed with four grandsons; Kurt (Francine) Johnson, David Faber, Michael Sean Prette and Jon Johnson. To her great grandsons, Anthony Johnson and Clinton Kilbert, she was lovingly known as “Grandma Marge”. Marguerite has three great-great grandsons. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and devoted caregivers.
None of us will forget her incredible strength, unwavering integrity, her Anderson wit, her relentless devotion to family and love of life! In less challenging days, Marge loved traveling, golf, bridge, knitting, crocheting and crossword puzzles. She was proud, yet humble. She asked little of those around her but gave much. She is forever in our hearts.
Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 5, 2017, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Elgin with Rev. Richard Rosinski officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be on Friday at the church from 10:00 AM until the mass. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, is in care of arrangements. For information, 847-741-8800 or www.lairdfamilyfuneralservices.com
