Vernon George Paul Koepke, age 80, of Cary, IL, passed away on January 21, 2018 surrounded by his family. Vern was born on February 20, 1937 in Chicago to Vernon and Pauline (Gernier) Koepke, and married on January 2, 1956 to Dorothy Hauck at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Cary. He worked as an excavator for most of his life and loved to drive tractors and dig in the dirt. He was self-employed until his retirement. Vern loved to spend time with his German Shepard dogs and grandchildren, especially watching old cartoons. Vern is survived by his siblings Judith, John, Thomas, Paulette, and Patricia; ex-wife Dorothy Koepke; his children Daniel (Val), Glenn (Sophie), Mike (Sheryl), Jeff (Barbara), Steve (Jackie), and Nanette Buck; his grandchildren Sara, Lynn (Erin), Pricilla, Desiree, Aaron, Lindsay, Jessica, Samantha (Phil) Smith, Garrett Buck, Devin Buck, Brandon (Kristyne), Justen (Nichole), and Dillon; his step-grandchildren Johnathan Minnec Jr., Christopher Minnec, Samantha Minnec, and William Hering; his great-grandchildren Cooper, Miles, Daxon, Braydon, MaryLynn, Lliam; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Darlene, and about ten dogs. The visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday, January 26, where Vern will lie in state at Windridge Memorial Park, 7014 S Rawson Bridge Rd., Cary, IL 60013. There will be a short service at noon, following the visitation, which will be officiated by Reverend William Metzger from Holy Cross Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or a dementia-serving charity of your choice.
