Francis “Frank” J. Prochaska, 59, of Sleepy Hollow, IL passed away on Tuesday, May 8th, 2018, following a seven month struggle with aggressive small cell lung cancer. Frank was the beloved husband to Christina Czuj, loving father to Jennifer Prochaska, and proud adoring grandfather to Emma Sullivan.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jerry Prochaska and his mother Annette (Dolly) Prochaska.
He is survived by 1 brother, Jerry Prochaska Jr. (spouse Lisa), 5 nieces and nephews, Ashley Klapperich (spouse Michael), Brittney Prochaska, Nikki Prochaska, James R. Kolb, and Ema Rey Kolb, and dear cousin Ron LaPenta (spouse Judie) and many other family members and friends. Born on October 21, 1958 in Chicago, Frank was raised in Chicago by Jerry and Dolly to be a diehard Cubs fan with a passion for music and a spirit of generosity; Frank would humbly do anything for anybody at the drop of a hat. After Frank’s cherished mother, Dolly, passed when he was in high school, cousin Judie became like a second mom to him – though no one could replace Dolly. Frank loved his parents dearly, always. A veteran, Frank served in the Air Force from July 28th, 1976 until his honorable discharge on July 25th, 1980. A hard working freight conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad for 22 years, Frank served as President of his union chapter, UTU/SMART-TD Local #577, after terms as Vice President, Alternate Vice-Local Chairman and Secretary. He was the go-to for anyone who needed something or had questions on the rails and he mentored many new conductors.
Frank worked with the Chicago Youth Baseball League, coaching the Astros from 2001 to 2005. He is fondly remembered as a favorite coach and was visited in his final days by Cody Connelly, a former team member, whose smile brightened as he shared memories of Frank. One of a kind, Frank lit up a room with his bright blue eyes and smile and an “I am who I am” approach to living life light-heartedly and his way. A “neighborhood-type guy” and sweet, down-to-earth soul, genuine, thoughtful and caring, he touched the lives of anyone who knew him. Frank Prochaska is missed dearly and remains vividly alive in the hearts of the people he leaves behind. The support and prayers given to Frank and Christina, who never left his side during this difficult journey, are greatly appreciated; with special thanks to Jerry & Lisa Prochaska and Ron & Judie LaPenta. Family and friends to gather for a memorial visitation being held from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at laird Funeral Home, 120 South Third Street in West Dundee, IL.
