Margaret (Collingbourne) Algozin passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018 after 94 wonderful years. She was born on March 23, 1924, the third of Albert Byron and Agnes Bang Collingbourne’s ten children. She married Franklin L. Algozin in 1956 and remained his loving wife until his death in 1976. She held various jobs in Elgin at the Daily Courier News, David A. Noyes, the Milk Pail, Bigger’s Chevrolet, and Hobby Lobby, but her life’s calling and greatest joy was in being an incredible mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was fun and feisty, strong and independent. She gave her time, attention, and love to making sure her favorite people knew they were the most important things in her life. She loved playing with and spending money on her grandchildren and was fondly known as “Grandma Claus.” She was her grandchildren’s (and their friends’) loudest cheerleader at soccer games, ballet recitals, and graduations. She was happy to be anyone’s and everyone’s “grandma” and touched the lives and hearts of many.

Margaret is dearly missed and survived by her daughter, Petrecia Algozin Shales (Michael); her grandchildren Anna Shales Machniak (Frank), Gwen Shales Johnson (Kyle), Leah Shales Roe (Daniel), Jack Shales, Raven Shales, and Hope Shales; her great-grandchildren Lillian and Timothy Machniak, Asher and Juliet (Etta) Johnson, and Elizabeth (Betty) Roe. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Collingbourne Morton, Carole Collingbourne Moore, and Nancy Collingbourne; and her brothers Albert Collingbourne, Jr., and Frank Collingbourne.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Franklin Algozin, and her siblings Petrecia Collingbourne, Thomas Collingbourne, Richard Collingbourne, and Naomi (Collingbourne) Stroup.

While her absence is felt by all, her spirit and joy of living is a legacy cherished by those she left behind. Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is assisting the family. 847-741-8800 or www.lairdfamilyfuneralservices.com.
