Miria Ann Barnett was born August 15, 1942 in Opelika, AL to the late James Sterling Burt and Sallie Rivers Burt Burns. She was the first of 7 children. Ann came to Elgin, IL in 1960 where she was united in Holy Matrimony to Chester Barnett Jr June 22, 1962. To this union one child was born Gwendolyn Barnett. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling on several bowling leagues as well as the National Traveling Bowling League. Ann was a member of Progressive Baptist church and a member of the Pastor’s Ministry for several years. She also was a member of the Progressive Baptist Church Choir and the President of the Kitchen Ministry. Ann worked for several years at Knowles Electronics where she eventually retired. She also worked for school district U-46 as lunch monitor where she always called the kids she had “her babies” and they called her “grandma”. Once her mother fell ill, she started working for Home Health Care, taking care of her mother, then eventually other clients. Ann leaves to cherish her memories, her husband Chester Barnett Jr. one daughter Gwendolyn Barnett, two grandchildren Chemyra and Tyler Barnett. She also leaves siblings, James (Janet) Burt, Milton Burns, Carol Spates, Brenda Barnes, Raymond Burns and Earl (Gayle) Burt, Mary Harris, Charlotte Burt-Springer, John Burt, Jimi Burt, Rolanda Wayne, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends who will truly miss her. Ann was proceeded in death by her parents James Sterling Burt Sr. and Sallie (Allie) Burns. Her uncle Charles Rivers, aunt Hatti Mae Rivers, brother Peter Burns and nephew Isaac (Dell) Dyson. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Second Baptist Church, 1280 Summit St., Elgin.  Burial will follow at Bluff City Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of services.  Laird Funeral Home, Elgin is assisting the family.  847-741-8800 or www.lairdfamilyfuneralservices.com.
