 Maurice Roswell Thruman Jr.
January 6, 1928 – September 20, 2018
Maurice (Jack) Thruman passed into his eternal home with Jesus, dying peacefully in the home of his oldest daughter and surrounded by family. Jack was born in Freeport, IL, and raised in Elgin, IL where he spent his whole life. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1947, after which he spent two years in the navy as a radar technician. He married the love of his life, Patsy (Westphal) Thruman in 1951, loving her for 67 years until her passing in June of 2018. They had three children, for whom Jack provided a loving and stable home. Jack spent most of his career working for Jewel Tea Company as a route salesman as well as in maintenance. He finished his career at the Taylor YMCA in Elgin, also in maintenance. He was adored by his family and close friends for his gentle and easy-going nature, his subtle yet hilarious sense of humor, his love for fine music (classical and Big Band) and even finer comedy (Three Stooges). And Jack was a model of health and fitness before it even came into fashion. Jack’s rich legacy includes his surviving children Sally (Mike) Merritt of Elgin, Connie (Dan) Stassin of Menifee, CA. and Ron (Zoe Ann) Thruman of Coeur D’Alene, ID., as well as 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, with many more to come. Besides his wife Patsy, he was preceded in death by his step-father Herbert Christensen and mother Elva (Brubaker) Christensen and an infant daughter. His life will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S State St, Elgin, IL., with visitation starting at 4:00 p.m. and service to begin at 6:00.
