Melitta E. Dunn, age 89, of Elgin, Illinois, formerly of Mount Prospect, died Thursday, November 8, 2018 at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Walter) Lung of Elgin and her son, William Dunn. She was preceded in death by her husband James Dunn and her sons Bernhard Dunn and Siegfried Dunn along with grandson Vincent Dunn. She is also survived by her grandsons: Joshua Lung, Tyler Lung, Jordan Lung, Justin Lung, Allen Dunn, Matt Dunn, William Dunn, and Anthony Dunn along with her only granddaughter, Jessica Dunn. She also cared deeply of her other family members and friends in Germany.

She was born in Spiegelberg, Germany on September 19, 1929 to her late parents, Emil and Johanna Schick. She was a live long and faithful member of the New Apostolic Church. She worked at Hans Bavarian Lodge in Wheeling for numerous years before working the rest of her career at United Airlines. She retired from United Airlines after 20 years of service.

She loved her family and friends along with her pal, Snoopy, the family Jack Russell. She was very caring and loved baking, cooking, and having coffee with friends and members of her church. She loved feeding the birds and planting her flowers / garden each spring.

She wanted to make sure to thank all of the ministers that visited her during her life. She really loved and appreciated every one of them and every minute she spent with them. She loved being chauffeured by her grandson, Jordan, to church or to the store or out to eat in her prized Lincoln Town Car. Her best birthday present was that she shared the same birthday as her daughter. She will be missed and our family appreciates the support during this grieving period especially from our church, choir members, and ministers.

Visitation will be at Laird Funeral Home in Elgin, IL 60123 on Saturday, November 17th, from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. A choir will starting singing at 1:45 pm and the service will start at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will continue after the service until 4:00 p.m. Her interment will be private. Reverend Brian Porter of the New Apostolic Church will officiate. For information 847-741-8800 or www.lairdfamilyfuneralservices.com
