 Almalea M Allen, 80, passed on November 21, 2018. She was born on September 1, 1938 in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Robert F. and Alma N. Burns. She will be missed be her children, her relatives, and friends. All loved by her. Her early years were spent in Richmond, CA during and after WWII. Her father worked in the Kaiser shipyards as an electrician. She spent 1944 in Hanford, WA where her father worked building a secret facility developing material for the first atomic bombs. The family returned to Iowa and farming. She graduated from Emmetsburg High School, where she was active in sports, clubs, and cheer leading, and was voted homecoming queen in her senior year. She married in 1959, and the settled in South Elgin, IL. She was a stay-at-home mom, baby sat many young children, and her home was the “go to” place for her kids, her grandkids, and neighborhood friends. Plus they usually got a fresh baked treat or ice cream. In later years, she worked at Hoffer Plastics and Mary’s Tap. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Stean, and her sister Suzanne Simington. She is survived by her daughters Roxane Allen (Barrington) and Stacie Lewis (Sarah, MS). She is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, plus her brother Bill Burns (S. Elgin). Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday December 6, 2018 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin, with some family sharing closing the evening.
