Richard “Dick” Fricke passed away peacefully on January 18, 2019 at the Vines Senior Homes in Elgin. He was born November 26, 1926 in Elgin, Illinois son of Henry and Mae Fricke.
Dick graduated from Elgin High School in January of 1945. He served in the Army 41st Infantry Battalion in the Philippines. As an Air Courier, he delivered classified documents to military bases on numerous islands, including Leyte, Luzon and Subic Bay. He graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Dick worked for Shakeproof ITW, in Elgin, and Universal Oil Products. He retired as a Design Engineer from Fermi-Lab in 1992.
Dick was an avid reader, with near perfect recall of dates, names and events, particularly in his favorite subject-areas of history, music and sports. In the 1940’s he played trombone with the Rhythm Masters Swing band. He enjoyed bike-riding, tennis and travel to Europe, all 50 States, Fiji Is., Australia and New Zealand. He was a gentle man, with a wonderful sense of humor. He deeply loved his family and friends.
He was a member of the St. Mary Church of Elgin, Elgin Radio-controlled flyers club, Golden Kiwanis, American Legion Post #57, the Elgin High School class of ’45 Reunion Committee, and Elgin Senior Center.
Survivors include his loving; wife, Milly, of 68 years, daughter, Ann of Dekalb, son, Mark (fiancé Tracy TreDenick) of Arlington Hts., precious granddaughters, Laura (Scott) Powers of Elgin, Sarah (Theodore) Inciong of West Dundee, Ashley Fricke of Mt. Prospect, great-grandson, Oliver Inciong of West Dundee, Son-in-Law, Walter Klein of Elgin, Sister Jean Ihrke of Elgin, Brother-in-law, James Brown of Freeport, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Mary Lee Klein, and his parents.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin from 4-8 PM and Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of Funeral mass at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, officiated by Rev. Fr. Chris Kuhn, assisted by Brother James Lewnard, CSV, nephew of Dick. Omission of flowers is requested, memorials can be made to St. Mary Educational Fund or The Vines at Countryside 971 Bode Rd, Elgin. Burial will be private.
