Ruth Waite

Ruth Waite, 67, of Elgin, passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN. She married Joseph Waite on August 30, 1980. They lived in Dundee, and then moved to Plato Center, where they raised their son, Matthew. Ruth grew up in Burlington, and attended Burlington Central High School and received a degree in fashion design from Harper College in Palatine, and continued studies in art and education at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. She worked at the State Bank of Burlington and then in the child care program at Elgin Community College. She became a paraprofessional for Burlington Central School District and worked with special needs children. During her tenure there she was named a Distinguished Educator in Kane County.
Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elgin. She volunteered for the Conquerors Program by directing monthly craft and art projects. She was an active participant in her book club and enjoyed reading and book discussions. Ruth loved art and her creative and artistic talent came through in her oil paintings. She appreciated beauty and above all loved her family. She will be remembered for her grace, kindness, strength and courage.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Marion Seyller and sister, Gloria.
She is survived by her husband Joe and son Matthew (Mindy), and their children Ava and Riley, Morris, IL, her step son Chuck Gray (Mitzi) and their children Ashley and Haley and step daughter Stephanie all of Rockford, IL, her sisters Joanne (Glenn), Morris, IL and Marianne (Paul) Holcomb, Genoa, IL. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church, 1735 W. Highland Ave., Elgin. Burial will be in the Burlington Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and on Wednesday morning at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Elgin for The Conquerors (Adult Special Needs Ministry), please make checks payable to the church with “Conquerors” in the memo.
