John Alexander Geavaras

 On Monday, February 3, 2019, at 6:30pm, John Alexander Geavaras, loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 72 at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital while surrounded by loved ones. John was born on December 14, 1946 in Evanston, IL and is predeceased by parents Archie Geavaras and Antoinette Panos. On August 28, 1999, he married Patricia Ann Wilson and they were together for 28 years. He is survived by daughter Gina (Ezra) Kilby of Ramsey, MN, daughter Charity (Richard) Geisel of Palatine, IL, granddaughters Abbygayle and Annabelle Kilby, grandsons Joseph and Matthew Geisel, sister Victoria Geavaras of Nanaimo, BC, brother Michael Geavaras of Chicago, IL and  step mother, Penny Geararas. John proudly served in the Army from 1967 through 1969 and was awarded two Bronze Stars as well as other commendations for his dedication and bravery. He was stationed in Vietnam from July 1967 through July 1968 and part of the "Tet Offensive" from January through September 1968. John loved to make those around him laugh with the latest and greatest joke, chuckling out loud himself, whether it was for the first time or the one hundredth time. He was a loyal friend and honest with everyone around him. You always knew where you stood with John. He loved to find the best deal in town saying, “Look at this coupon I found”. And if it was free, all the better! He was a devoted and affectionate husband to Patricia, always leaving love notes for her to find in random places around the house. He had a passion for painting, coloring, and creating meaningful artwork. John was a voracious reader and an avid collector of sports cards. John enjoyed roaming around town on various scooters.Visitation will be held Monday February 11, 2019 at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin IL from 5 to 8 p.m. with a time of remembrance beginning at 7:15 p.m. and closing with the playing of tap
