Lois R. Renz, 98, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Pinecrest Community in Mt. Morris, Illinois. She was born December 30, 1920, in Tuckerman, Arkansas, one of six children born to Claud and Nela (McCoy) Lanxton. After the death of her birth parents, she was adopted by Rev. and Mrs. R. J. Burns of Fort Wayne, Indiana. She graduated from high school in Fort Wayne, and attended Manchester College where she earned a B.S. in Education. While attending college, she met and married her husband of 71 years, Rev. James E. Renz of Greenville, Ohio. After graduation, Rev. Renz became Pastor at the Church of the Brethren in Wabash, Indiana, Lima, Ohio, and Naperville, Illinois. The Renz family moved to Elgin, Illinois in 1951 where Lois began her teaching career at Lincoln Elementary School and later at Channing Elementary School.

Lois was passionate about music, loved animals, and helped those in need. She served beside her husband in ministry through the Brethren Church and at the Renz Center. She also volunteered to work with Alzheimer’s patients, at the Well Child Clinic, and at Pinecrest Community. She was very generous in support of causes she believed in and was always on the lookout to be a support, and a friend, to the sick, the lonely and the poor. She lived her life filled with the joy of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Myra (Dean) Thompson of Elgin, seven grandchildren: Tammy (Richard) Grenda of Geneva, Rick Thompson of Dekalb, Lori (Stephen) Page of Mt. Morris, Troy (Stacey) Fleenor of Elgin, James (Kathy) Lasley of Flagstaff, AZ, Scott (Mandy) Lasley of Flagstaff, AZ, and Pamela Lasley of Walsenburg, CO. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, James, daughters Linda and Roberta, her birth parents, her adoptive parents, and her five siblings.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at 2:30 PM at the Highland Avenue Church of the Brethren, 783 Highland Avenue, Elgin, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pinecrest Community in Mt. Morris, Illinois.
