Irene E. Cerda, 73, passed away on April 27, 2019. She was born December 9, 1945, in Chicago to Ester (Melendez) Cerda Bautista and Frank Cerda. She made her home in Elgin with her long-time partner, Andrew Acevedo, two dogs, Maverick and Betty and a menagerie of cats: Marcella, Cubby, Tommy, and Kalli, as well as two outdoor cats, Rebel and Tiffy.
Irene found her calling as a pet sitter and started her own small business caring for other people’s furry family members. Her love of animals was only surpassed by her love of her grandchildren.
Though Irene’s body was failing her, her faith in God grew stronger every day. Her positive attitude toward life helped her to live a life as the hands and feet of Jesus: she never met a stranger, would give away her last penny, her last stitch of clothing and her last bite of food to help human and furry friends alike. She will be missed for so many reasons, too numerous to count. One of the ways she showed her love to her family and human friends was through food. Her family will very much miss her potato salad, dumplings and tacos.
Loved ones who will miss Irene until they meet again are her long-time partner and greatest supporter, Andy Acevedo; her son, Ray, his wife Marianne and their two children Hunter and Chase of Freehold, NJ; and her son Adam, his wife Lisa and their two children Nicholas and Alexandra of Huntley, IL; her sister Josephine (Henry); many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Loved ones who welcomed her to her Heavenly home are her parents and grandparents.
Services are private; memorials may be made in her name to Anderson Animal Shelter at www.Andersonanimal.org
