Sally “Joann” (Brumfield) Waugh, 80, of Elgin, IL passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, September 22, 2019, surrounded by her family. Born in Glenwood, WV, on May 18, 1939 to Nina (Hudson) and Wilbert Brumfield.
In the fall of 1961 she and her husband Herman and their 3 children (Sharon, Lonnie and Cindy) relocated to Elgin, IL. As many noticed, she never lost her West Virginia “twang”.
She was a strong independent woman who was loved by her family and many friends. During her lifetime she had several jobs outside the home including BF Goodrich (St Charles, IL) and Quantum Performance Films (Bartlett, IL). However, her devotion to her family was her favorite. She was an avid Jeopardy viewer.
She was “Mom, Aunt, Grandma and Gigi” to many; and a friend to all. She would especially want to acknowledge the close family ties of over 50 years with the Lewis family.
Over the years, Joann and Herman brought many people into their home. One included their great nephew William Newman (and his mother Marlene); who continues to be like a brother to their children. She is survived by children: Sharon (Roger) Bos, Lonnie (Debbie) Waugh, and Cindy (Cecil) Walden; 7 grandchildren (Megan Waugh, Wesley Kruse, Bradley Kruse, Nathan Waugh, Andrew Walden, William (Will) Walden, Caramie Waugh); 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband (of 36 years), parents, 10 siblings and dear friend Chico Lewis.
Whether she was in town or across the country, it seemed she always ran into someone she knew. Thank you for being a part of her life. She is survived by her children: Sharon (Roger) Bos, Lonnie (Debbie) Waugh, and Cindy (Cecil) Walden, 7 grandchildren (Megan Waugh, Wesley Kruse, Bradley Kruse, Nathan Waugh, Andrew Walden, William (Will) Walden, Caramie Waugh), 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband of 36 years (Herman F. Waugh), her parents and she was the last of her siblings.
Visitation will be held 10:00am - 1:00 pm, on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, 51 Center St, Elgin, IL. Burial will follow at Bluff City Cemetery, Elgin. In lieu of flowers (due to family allergies, please no lilies), memorial donations may be given in her name to American Cancer Society or American Heart Association. 847-742-2100 or www.lairfamilfuneralservices.com.
