Guillermina M. Ramirez went peacefully into the arms of Our Lord on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019. She was born June 25, 1920, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to Gerardo Martinez Oviedo and Dorotea Ovalle de Martinez.  Guillermina endured much loss as a young woman. She lost her husband, Teodoro Gonzalez, and was left to raise her two young children, Valentina and Carmelito Gonzalez. She later moved to Monterrey, Mexico, where she raised her children with help from her parents and extended family. Her son died at age 18 of illness. Guillermina remarried many years later to Jose Santos Ramirez after her daughter’s marriage. The couple moved to Elgin in 1970s with her daughter’s family. Guillermina helped raise her three grandsons and great-great grandchildren.  She was a woman of deep faith who attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. “Dios te bendiga,” she always told her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they walked out the door. Guillermina prayed for her family and friends every day. Her voice led countless rosaries, especially during Christmas while celebrating las Posadas. She was known for her exceptional tamales. She always fed anyone who came through her door, whether it was one of her special Mexican dishes or piece of pan dulce and coffee. Guillermina loved working in the yard, watering plants and weeding.  Guillermina was the heart of our family and will be dearly missed.  She is survived by her daughter, Valentina Casas, three grandsons, Jose I. (Juanita) Casas, of Elgin, Alonso (Gloria) Casas, of Elgin, Gerardo (Lourdes) Casas, of Huntley and six great-grandchildren, Cecilia Casas, of Genoa, Sabrina and Loraina Casas, of Elgin, Gerardo Jr., of Huntley, Alejandro and Sofia Casas, of Elgin, two brothers, Ramon and Rosendo Martinez, of Monterrey, Mexico, many nieces, nephews and close friends.  She is preceded in death by her first husband, Teodoro, her second husband, Jose Santos, an infant great-grandson, Xavier, and her son-in-law, Jose I. Casas, her sisters Benita Martinez Ovalle, Alauearia Martinez Ovalle, and two brothers, Rodrigo and Fidencio Martinez Ovalle.  Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24 at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, 51 Center St., Elgin. A rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 272 Division St., Elgin. Burial follows at Mount Hope Cemetery, 1001 Villa St.
