Luella Lichthardt, 97, of Elgin passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at The Vines in Elgin. She was born on November 4, 1922 in Addison, IL to Albert & Emma Schaper Meyer.
Luella married the late Arnold E. Lichthardt on November 24, 1945 in Elgin St. John’s Lutheran Church. They met in 1939 after he wrote to her and invited her to a church play at Hosier Church. They were engaged while Arnold served four years in the army during WWII, and married 3 weeks after his return home. They spent the next 65 years together.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for over 80 plus years. She also belonged to the Elgin Turner’s Club.
She enjoyed dairy, hog and grain farming, raising chickens, selling eggs, growing & selling pumpkins, gardening and mowing grass on her John Deere till the age of 93. She could successfully tackle DIY projects before the days of You-Tube videos. Luella also enjoyed going to the lake, had fun playing cards, bowling, fishing and trips to the casino with her dear friends.
She will be remembered for beautiful smile and cheery disposition, delicious deviled eggs and strong work Ethic.
She is survived by her daughter Susan Kay (Charles) McDonald, son-in-law William (Debbie) Robinson; grandchildren: Stephanie Robinson, Josh (Chanel) Robinson, Jill Bons (Mike Fisher) and Tom (Michele) McDonald; 6 great grandchildren: Madison, Grant & Kennedy Lu Bons, Ellie & Alex McDonald, and Sydney Kathy Robinson. Many nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Kathy Robinson, brother Arvin Meyer and sister Flora Kollwelter.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 11:00 AM in the Wait Ross Allanson Funeral & Cremation Services Chapel, 51 Center St., Elgin. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 16th from 2-5 PM in the chapel and on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
