John Kvanduch, 87, of Elgin passed away on February 27, 2020. He was born on July 20, 1932 in Chicago the son of John & Anna Drska Kvanduch.
John spent his formative years in Slovakia. Just before his 18th birthday, he came back to the United States. John served in the Army and was an Infantry Sargent in the Korean War for the 5th Regional Combat Team. Upon his completion of service in the Army, John was a punch press operator and an active member and player for the Slovak Athletic Association. John was also a member and past president of the Dobrovsky Club, a Czechoslovak Masonic Club. Additionally, he was an avid member and supporter of the Medinah Shriners. As part of the Shriners, John raised awareness for their causes, was a Marshall, and portrayed Ali Baba in parades.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, and his life partner Nina Wolthausen.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 7:00 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Inurnment will occur on Friday, March 6, 2020 9:00 at Washington Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 PM, concluding with Military Honors being presented by the United States Army.
