Harry R. Fritz (Ron)
(05-29-1939 - 09-22-2020)

Harry Fritz (Ron), 81, died Tuesday September 22, 2020, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Illinois. He was born May 29, 1939 in Elgin, Illinois, the son of Harry and Mabel (Heimsoth) Fritz.. He graduated from Elgin High School, Class of 1957. On September 9, 1960 he married Judy Lindorfer. They celebrated their 60th year of marriage in September.

Ron had a great sense of humor, and a laugh and smile that was contagious. He was a great family man (our rock), and friend. He was always there to help out in any way he could.

Ron started his career in 1957 as a lineman at the phone company (known as Illinois Bell at that time). Through his 38 years at the phone company, he had many job positions; lineman, installer, repairman, cable locator, and driving instructor. Ron retired from the phone company in 1995. During his career with phone company, Ron also worked 8 years (1973-1981) as a part time police reserve officer for the Elgin Police Dept. He became the chief steward for the police reserve.

Ron spent many years camping with his family and friends. Starting with a small Tow-Lo camper, he upgraded to larger campers throughout the years. And of course, with upgrading campers, he had to upgrade towing vehicles. He loved his Chevy Suburbans.
In his younger days, he enjoyed playing baseball, bowling, pheasant hunting and fishing. He loved pitching horseshoes. He spent many years playing in Monday and Thursday night leagues. He also played in many local tournaments and 5 World Tournaments. During the winter months, his friends and him would pitch horseshoes indoors at Beloit Horseshoe Club in Wisconsin.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Judy; his sister Janet (Robert) Mayes; his children, Melissa (Larry) Kurek, and Eric; his grandchildren, Lacie (Nick) Zimmerman, and Trevor Kurek.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews: John Mayes and Ken Mayes.

Visitation will be held at Laird Funeral Home in Elgin Illinois, Friday, October 2, 2020 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM., followed by a memorial service at Lakewood Memorial Park 30W730 US-20, Elgin, Illinois.
