On September 23, 2020 Joan (Luckey) Scales 77, lost her 14 year battle with Parkinson's disease. She is preceded in death by her parents Tracy Luckey 1994 (86) Ruth Luckey 1982 (69), her brother James Luckey 2009( 61) son Michael Scales 1972 (7) and husband James Scales 2020 ( 79). She is survived by daughter Cathi (Bill) Boldywn, Kelli ( Matt) Walsh and two grandchildren, Jake and Lola Walsh.

Joan Luckey Scales was born in Mattoon IL to Tracey and Ruth Luckey on January 12, 1943. She was the oldest of two children. Joni met and married Jim Scales while she was working as a dental hygienist in Rantoul Il at Chanute Air Force base. They would have been married 57 years this October. Joni had three children, Mike who passed away at 7 years old from a neuroblastoma, Cathi and Kelli.

Joni worked as a nurse at Sherman hospital for 35 years in the intensive care nursery and loved her job. She took joy in being there for our friends when they were having babies. She took such pride in her career. She was there for Lolas birth as well and we give her credit for saving her life. She was a very caring and loving woman, she had the sweetest disposition and a huge tolerance.

Joni loved her books, laying in the sun, music and dancing. She loved to laugh, she had a big laugh that made you smile and more often than not, would make you laugh too. She loved her friends and all of our friends. She was happiest when we were all together. Many of our friends confided in our mom over the years, she was such a good listener and loyal friend to all.

Our mom was a wonderful person, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She really would have done anything for anyone, she loved our dad and us without hesitation. Words cannot begin to express the sadness that we feel over our loss.

We will be saying our final goodbyes to Joni on October 10th from 2-4:30 at Laird Funeral Home in Elgin. In Lieu of flowers please make a donation to Cals Angles at Calsangels.org
