Walter C. Baumgartner, 73, of Elgin, passed away at home peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Walter was born January 2, 1947 in Elgin the son of Clarence & Bernadine Pease Baumgartner.

Walter was a life long resident of Elgin, a graduate of Burlington Central High School, and served in the US Navy. Walter was a union carpenter local 363. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed going to Canada where he knew all the “spots”. It’s where he was known by the name of “OG”. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren grow and play sports. He will be missed by the Canadian fishing guides, but not nearly as much as his family.

Survivors include: his son Kevin (Michelle) Baumgartner, his daughter Kelli (Gabe) Macias and his daughter/niece, Tracy Hauch; grandchildren: Austin, Lexi and Tori Macias, Zack and Jake Baumgartner and Kolton Hauch. Siblings: Robert (Robbie) Baumgartner, Richard (Janice) Baumgartner, John (Ann) Baumgartner, Donald (June) Baumgartner and Bonnie (Joe) Marlett; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margaret “Peggy” Mary Ruehle Baumgartner.

Private funeral services will be held in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 4:30 PM – 9:00 PM.
