Lizzie D. Vaughn, 90, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 at Lexington Healthcare Center in Schaumburg, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Cuff Allen Kirkland and the late Cammie Ferguson Dunlap.

Lizzie was born July 25, 1930 in Catawba, South Carolina where she joined Liberty Hill Baptist Church at a young age and was a faithful member of the church and choir. She was a graduate of Emmett Scott High School and received an Associate Degree in Business Management from York Technical College in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was employed for forty years as a sales associate and buyer in retail at Belk Department Store in South Carolina and Carson Pirie Scott in Illinois where she retired. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Lizzie was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas “J.T.” Vaughn; brothers, Ulysses “C” Dunlap, Thomas Allen Kirkland, Sr., Lonnie Dunlap, Jr., William Perry “Buddy” Dunlap, Richard Lee Dunlap, Melvin Jerome Kirkland, and sisters Mary Davis and Rosa Lee Saddler. She leaves her cherished memories with her daughter, Janice Carolyn Johnson (Robert) of Elgin, Illinois, and her son James Thomas “Chip” Vaughn III (Robin) of Clayton, North Carolina; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers Robert Lee Kirkland (Agnes) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, John Louis Kirkland of Kannapolis, North Carolina, and sister Elizabeth Kathleen Elliot (James) of Baltimore, Maryland; aunts Azilee McKnight and Kathleen Ferguson of Charlotte, North Carolina and Helen F. McKenzie (Thomas Ralph) of Joliet, Illinois; sisters-in-law Beulah Dunlap of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Patricia Dunlap of Concord, North Carolina; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and dear friends. It should come as no surprise that she was also an honorary grandma and aunt to many. Love knows no bounds. 
Home Going Celebration will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Laird Funeral Home, Elgin.  Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of services.  Interment will be in the Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Catawba, SC on Satuday, January 9, 2021 at 1:00 PM.  For those wanting to follow the service at home, please go to our Face Book page at Laird Family Funeral Services, we will be live-streaming from 2:00 PM until the service ends.
