Elmer Fred Moeller, 89, passed away at home on February 19, 2021 of natural causes. He was born on March 11, 1931 (in Bensenville, IL.) into a large, farming family, the son of Max and Emma Moeller. After graduating from Plato Center High School, Elmer served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean War. Elmer later became a plumber in the area and met his wife Gwen (Olwin) Moeller at the 220 club. They were united in marriage on May 5, 1962 in Elgin IL. Together they had four children: Carlene Moeller, Bertina (Michael) Maloy, Arnold (Janet) Moeller, and Merrick (Gayle) Moeller; and five grandchildren: Matthew, Adam, Owen, Lukas, and David.

He is also survived by siblings: Julie Adamson, Wanda Dieckman, Richard (Janet) Moeller, along with many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Arnold, Hans, Max and Leonard Moeller; and sister: Louise Moeller.

He was a member of the Highland Avenue Church of the Brethren.

A man of few words, Elmer showed us how to grow old with dignity and kindness. After retiring, he spent his latter years tending to his massive garden, putting together puzzles, and (with his mischievous smile) delighting relatives with his one-of-a kind fireworks displays.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Laird Funeral Home in Elgin, with a service of remembrance beginning at 1:00 pm. Burial with Honors will follow at Plato Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, should family and friends desire, memorials may be made to the soup kettle at the Highland Avenue Church of the Brethren or the charity of your choice.
