Harriet Gene Goll, 94, of Elgin, Illinois passed away on Thursday, March 18th, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Gene was born on September 17th, 1926, the daughter of Harold & Vera Westphal.
She graduated from Elgin High School in 1944, where she was a talented drummer in the band, cheered for the Maroons, and was a gymnast on the Tumble Weeds team. Gene was also involved in planning memorable reunions for Elgin HS class of ’44.

Gene met John Goll after he returned from service in the Pacific. They were happily married for 41 years. They raised their family in St. Charles, Illinois and later moved to Terrell, Texas where they enjoyed line dancing, chasing armadillos, and golfing; where she infamously made a hole in one on a par 3.
Gene was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, where she made lasting friendships with her sorority sisters. She went to Holy Trinity Church in Elgin and spent a lot of time at baseball fields and gymnasiums cheering for her husband and children during their sporting events. Gene worked at Ackermans Department Store, was a homemaker, and later worked at Boynton Plastic. She loved to share a glass of wine, a sip of Apricot Brandy or Peppermint Schnapps; since it’s always 5 o’clock somewhere.

She is survived by her brother, Harold “Bud” Westphal, her sister-in-laws; Genevieve Walton, Judy Goll, and Carol Goll; her three children, Linda Goll (Steve Hahns), Jerry Goll (Penny), and Jodi Spolum (Don).Loving grandmother of Brittany Busch (Andy), Tyler Haymond (Candice), Jordan Goll (Kristi), Troy Spolum (Stephanie), Jenna Dedic (Kenneth), Jaime Sereika (Andrew), and Chase Goll. She was adored by her 12 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband John, sister Patsy Thruman, and other beloved family members.

Celebration of her life will be on Friday, March 26th at Laird Funeral Home in Elgin. Visitation is between 4pm-6pm, service at 6pm. Father Paul White will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her name to Radom Acts Matter, American Cancer Society, or American Diabetes Association.
